Here’s how it works. You begin the year doing ONE subject, say Social Studies. For six weeks your only academic subject is Social Studies. No English, no Math, no Science.
Once that course is completed, take a week off. Then begin ONE other course, say Math. For the next six weeks do no other academic course but Math. Once that course is over, take a week off and pick the next course. And so on.
This process is not for every student, but for some it is an excellent method. Students who are easily overwhelmed can use this method. Instead of trying to remember five sets of vocabulary and five testing schedules, and five sets of assignments due, they are done one-at-a-time, driving the studied content deeper and more permanently into their learning.
“The Colorado Plan” has been known to limit the stress a student experiences trying to juggle so many things. It can help a student organize himself better for academic success.
