Family
Young children can draw good conclusions when they hear certain words.
Grandma Carol was sitting in the back seat of the van with our 4-year-old grandson, Keith. Keith asked grandma if she had any gum. She did. She went on, “Let’s ask your mommy. Mommy, would it be okay if Keith had some gum?” Mommy agreed.
Carol pulled out her pack of gum, selected a piece, and gave it to Keith. Keith unwrapped it and began chewing it. He stopped and asked, “Grandma, is this bubble gum?”
“No, Keith, it’s not bubble gum.”
“What kind of gum is it, Grandma?”
“It’s just plain old gum.”
Keith removed it from his mouth immediately, handed it to his grandma, and told her, “I’m not allowed to eat old gum."
